I am a student who is currently working on a biology project about cri-du-chat sundrome, and though I was able to find information elsewhere, your site has been especially helpful, and touching. Thank you for putting your story out into the world.

Just a few words to say that I'm very impressed by your story. Everyday life may not be always easy but you are a happy family, that is what matters. It's very comforting to see that Steven is happy and that you are happy too. Just go on like that, it's fantastic !!! Special greetings to Steven of course :)

Betreff:What a beautiful family!
Dear Steven: You and your family are absolutely wonderful. I have a 12 year old daughter in the United States who has Cri du Chat syndrome, and she is my role model for everything that is meaningful in life. She touches everyone she meets in such beautiful ways, and it is an honor and a privilege to be her mother. I have 5 children in all, with Heidi being my youngest, and the only one affected by 5p-. She has a de novo terminal deletion at 14.1 on 5p. Thank you so much for sharing your life and your story with the world. We are all ambassadors of people with different abilities to our world, and your website does a great service of educating all people of not only the syndrome, but the humanity that we all share. Many, many thanks, and best wishes to you and your family.

Hello Steven, I was so touched when i saw your website and wanted to tell you how great you are to share your story with other people... My daughter who is 5 months now has the cat cry syndrom and we are waiting to see what exactly we are dealing with. The assessment will take place next month and I am praying so hard that she will be fine. Meanwhile, take good care of yourself and keep the good job of updating this website. I send you my warmest regards. Joyce

As I read this, I can't stop thinking about how dedicated and you are. Steven may have a harder life than most, but he was gifted with having a family that cares for him as much as you guys do.

Hi, I am finishing up my first year of medical school and we are currently studying genetics which includes cri-du-chat syndrome. Thank you so much for taking the time to share your story with me and the rest of the world. It helps remind us future doctors that it is people we treat and not cases. I look forward to staying updated with you and your family! Jeanie

It took me awhile to even start forming an answer... after all what can I say about things I know so little about? The syndrome has attacked Steven in every possible way; it takes a great deal of effort, work and sacrifice to bring the quality of his life to the outstanding levels seen. This website is real food for thought and the people who have nothing to learn from here can be counted on one hand or two. The fact that it's a good resource on a rare syndrome is, of course, secondary. Tell Steven he's a great teacher, no less for having to depend constantly on his also-great assistants.

I was searching for information about the cri-du-chat syndrome when I came to your site. Your are an inspiration to all parents who have children that are physically disabled. It was wonderful to see Steven's progresses as he learned new things...I only hope that he will continue to grow beautifully and be nurtured with all the love the world has to offer. I hope that in hard times God will personally send an angel to inspire you once again. Blessings.

My daughter is a Kindergarten teacher and has a child who has Cri du chat syndrome. We were researching to find out what it was, what to expect, and what she could do to make her educational experience successful. We found your website. I am a special education teacher and through my 33 years of teaching I have seen many children who are lucky to have been born into their families and many who are unlucky. Steven is lucky to have such a supportive family and you are lucky to have him. God handpicks parents and siblings for his special angels. Continue to realize your blessing. Thank you for the time you have put in on this website. The lives you touch will be helped enormously and so will you be blessed. Thank you again.

Thanks so much for putting Steven's diary on line. I can relate to so much that you have shared. Our daughter also enjoys horseback riding, swimming, music, crinkling paper, and .... tasting a bit of nature. We learn so much from these special angels in our care. Blessings to your family this Christmas and happy travelling in your new motorhome!

Hello. My wife and I have a daughter, Quinlin, with Cri-Du-Chat. She is 8 years old now. We can understand a lot of the issues you discuss in your diary. Quinlin is not affected to the extent that Steven is. She has been walking since she was around 4. Actually, it is more like stumbling. She is very clumsy and does not pay attention to her surroundings. Quinlin has a feeding tube which she has had since she was 3 weeks old. She eats most of what she needs now but she still needs to be tube fed once a day to add some calories. She is partially potty trained but we really need to pay attention to how long it has been since she last went. As far as #2, it's about 50/50. The Cri-Du-Chat specific symptoms she has include poor muscle tone, developmental, motor and speech delays, microcephaly, and hyperactivity. You, or anyone, who has questions about our experiences with the syndrome can feel free to email us. Also, I post lots of pictures here:

Betreff:Thanks for the story of a child with wonderful parents
In my country a person with a cri-du-chat symptom would be locked in an asylum and the society would notice him only once a year (during Christmas time usually). I wish every handicapped child could have the luck with parents like you, who would provide him with all the love, care and attention he needs.
